Hello again from Route 66,
We started out the day with a nice breakfast at the Hampton Inn in Edwardsville, IL; we hit the road at 9:00 am on our way to the Old Chain of Rocks bridge over the Mississippi river. Finding the bridge is complicated but we managed to find it, parked the Vette and walked to the middle of the bridge right over the middle of the river. The bridge has a 22 degree bend over the middle of the river, don't ask me why? I crossed this bridge in the mid 60s on my way to school, it sure brought back several memories, wow the bridge is much narrower when you walk it!
From the Chain of Rocks we drove through St. Louis to the Arch, neither Dave or I have been there so we parked in the deck and walked through the park to the Arch and Museum. The Arch is 630 ft. tall and has as much stainless steel as you will ever see, well done. The Jefferson Museum at the site was built in 1986 and celebrates our countries migration westward. If you haven't been to the arch or museum you should think about going, they are both well worth seeing. We drove through St. Louis on Old 66 and stopped for lunch and then dessert at the famous Ted Drewes frozen custard stand, twelve windows to serve customers, very busy.
After lunch we were headed south and west, stopping in Fanning, Lebanon, and Rolla; a great day but it was really hot, we saw 100F most of the day. We stopped in Springfield, Mo. for dinner at the Bass Pro Shop and then stopped for the night at another Hampton. Dave and I had a good day of travel (275 mi.) and look forward to tomorrow, Mo. Ks., and Oklahoma.
See you tomorrow night, Mike
